About the Twin Cities Walk to Live & Breathe!
My father, Terry Winzeler, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer in August 2004 and for 4 ½ years he fought with grace and determination. He had over 90 infusions and 9 different lines of treatment! His last scan, only weeks before he passed away, showed an overall IMPROVEMENT in the size and activity of his lung cancer. Lung cancer is the #1 cancer-killer! Stealing more mothers, fathers, sons and daughters than breast, prostate, colorectal, and pancreatic cancers – combined! Yet, funding for lung cancer research and treatments are among the lowest. LUNGevity is changing that. Please join us. Please walk, please donate, and please give to support the most cutting-edge research for this terrible disease. I am walking in honor of and in solidarity with the 589 Americans that will be diagnosed today and in memory of the person who died while you read this note (1 American every 3 minutes). Most of all, I am walking enliven the memory of Anita Rose, my mom, and grandmother to my son, but for three more months, could have held him in her arms
This Twin Cities walk to live & Breathe was founded by four individuals, each with their own story to tell. Our goal is to raise public awareness of the disease as well as generate funding for lung cancer research. These are our stories and the faces of lung Cancer......

Walking in memory of my mother-in-law
Pictured left is my mother-in-law Joyce Kenow. Joyce passed
away on January 3rd 2007 after battling lung cancer a very short time. I was fortunate enough to be able to help care for her in her last days.
After witnessing the disease first hand and seeing what people go through on a daily basis I vowed to help bring awareness to lung cancer, as well as raise money for lung cancer research.

Walking in memory of my mother
My mother and best friend was diagnosed with lung cancer on August 2, 2007.She fought hard, but nothing seemed to work and she quickly deteriorated. She was a woman who loved life and lived it to the fullest. As you can imagine it was extremely difficult to see the sunshine disappear from her eyes. She took her last breath on December 13 only four months after being diagnosed. When I read the statistics about lung cancer I was appalled. The fact that lung cancer is the cancer that causes the most deaths, but it gets the least amount of funding is truly sad. I will never be the same person I was before she died. I hope that by helping raise money for lung cancer research that one less daughter will have to lose her best friend!

Walking in memory of my Father
What astounded me was my father's continued ability to fight this horrible disease with grace and humor every single day. This fundraising event is my way of fighting lung cancer in honor of my Dad. Thank you Dad for giving hope, teaching grace, and for being the best example of determination!

Walking in memory of my mother
My mother was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in March of 2006. While she, along with loved ones fought hard, her body and spirit quickly deteriorated. Just six months later, on September 23, 2006, she passed away. My Mom loved her family and friends – placing everything in her control for the betterment of her loved ones. While returning that virtue to her, it was extremely difficult to watch her laugher turn to pain and her strength to suffering. Upon her diagnosis, we read the statistics about lung cancer – horrendous! We remained optimistic. We are fighting NOW and looking toward the future…Everyday brings a new drug, a new treatment. In the end, our hope and faith in medicine were not enough.
